The ingredients needed to prepare Sambar Idli:
  1. Get 1/4 cup toor dal
  2. Provide 1/4 cup moong dal
  3. Get 1 Chilli
  4. Get 2 tomato
  5. Provide 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  6. Use Salt as required
  7. You need 1 pinch hing
  8. You need 1 big onion
  9. Get 1 tbsp tamarind puree
  10. Take 1 small piece jaggery
  11. You need 1/4 tsp mustard
  12. Take 1/4 tsp jeera
  13. Prepare 1 bunch curry leaves
  14. Provide 1 tbsp sambar powder
  15. Take 1 tbsp Coconut oil
  16. Use 5 Idli
Instructions to make Sambar Idli:
  1. Chop tomatoes, green chillies and onions.
  2. Wash the toor dal, moong dal and add it to the cooker.
  3. Now add chopped green chillies and tomatoes.
  4. Then Add turmeric powder, hing, salt and water as needed and cook for two whistles.
  5. Once it is cooked, heat the oil in a pan. Add mustard, cumin and curry leaves.
  6. Then add chopped onions and saute well.
  7. Once the onion is sauted well, add the tamarind puree and jaggery and stir well. Then add the sambar powder and bring to a boil.
  8. Pour the boiled lentils into the pan and cook for 5 minutes in a medium heat.
  9. Place the idli in a serving vessel, pour the sambar on it and serve hot.
